SUMMERS IN ITALY
This year I added a new chapter to my By the Water series during a trip from Naples to the island of Ischia, only an hour by ferry. Just steps from the arrival port, a string of local beaches came alive with energy—young bathers lounging in the sun, the effortless rhythm of island life unfolding. It felt like a perfect place to linger and document the scene. Earlier on the same trip I explored by boat the different beach locales on Lake Garda in the north of Italy.
On an earlier trip to Ortigia, Sicily I explored the nearby beaches where locals relaxed on large outcroppings of rocks or bathed by a strip of cafes in the late afternoon sun.
