While working on my Portraits of Dancers series I decided to ask some of the young women if they would sit for a portrait session outside of the dance studio setting. Lindsey was my first subject – we spent an afternoon together exploring ways to visualize how she felt being a dancer.
In Lindsey’s own words: For me, dance is a daily practice. It is a space for drinking in energy and responding with grit. As dancers spend our daily hours' gathering, puzzle solving, letting go, pushing, supporting, seeking, holding space, confronting demons, welcoming spontaneity. We do dishes with the angels. It is my moving meditation.
