THE MASLOOL DANCE PROGRAM
In December 2017, while Nickol was on a trip to Israel, she arranged to do a series of portraits with the “Maslool”, a professional two-year dance training program for students, 18-21, in Tel Aviv that is under the guidance of artistic directors Naomi Perlov and Offir Dagan.
Over 75% of the 'Maslool' students are serving at the IDF (Israel Defense Forces) as privileged outstanding dancers. This status gives the dancers the opportunity to study at the 'Maslool' and serve at the IDF in a special job that can allow them to dance.
For this project, Nickol also included male students and continued to use natural light and pre-existing backgrounds. Nickol found the “Maslool” students to be talented, warm and receptive.
NIckol would like to thank Alexandra Wells for the introduction to the dance school and to Roy Bedarshi for organizing the photography session.
